I hosted Maral Karimi, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto who focuses on Social Justice Education with a background in politics.
Maral is also an author of the book, The Iranian Green Movement of 2009. Click the link to check it out, and see below to follow Maral on Twitter.
In this book, I lay out the failure of #Reform & the demise of the #GreenMovement arguing it was never a #democratic alternative to begin with, but a distortion. I then link that to the Dec 2017 uprisings (hence the cover photo) and the cyclical nature of protests in Iran.
Maral and I speak deeply on the nuances of politics and society in Iran, geopolitics related to the liberation of the Iranian people, women's rights, and more. The discussion could have continued for much longer than an hour, and I made room for Maral to build historical context and discuss the evolution of Iran over more than 40 years.
