I was hoping I could open this up with:
progressive rhetoric, research, citations - whatever else.
Focus the conversation on interactions between institutions and individuals + a dash of identity.
Make it political as fuck.
And publish it to my tens of thousands of loyal readers. (not yet)
But you know what they say about the distance between theory and praxis.
On several occasions, I’d sit down to publish my thoughts - and nothing. In a lot of ways, more thinking than writing has transpired.
Part of me wants to continue to suspend my opinions - put my unstructured knowledge behind me for another 6-12 months and dive deeper into research.
Another part of me thinks I could provide examples of the thinking I’m aiming for by citing its implementation in other domains.
I could refine the communication of my observations in areas like:
interactions between citizens and the state
interactions between corporations and government
theory of liberal democracy vs. actual practice
identity at the individual level and its influence on perceptions of self-determination
Indeed, observations in the areas above could highlight the shortcomings of democratic ideals like political equality and upward mobility. But I wouldn’t want to stray too far from my fundamental objective.
To lay the groundwork for an extensive, rigorous critique of American Politics, Government, and liberalism.
The product of my exposition could be insights aimed at those seeking an improvement to society and imagine politics as one lever to pull on.
More to come.
