GrayStak Media
GrayStak Media is an independent press operation. We cover political and social dynamics as they unfold through video and photojournalism from the field, alongside written reporting, interviews, commentary, and analysis.
Our coverage runs from institutional politics at the city, state, and federal levels to immigration enforcement, protests and civic action, and investigative work across corporate governance, public finance, national security, and AI regulation. We report from the ground, often from moments that don’t reach wire reports in real time.
GrayStak has two pillars that share a single field network. GrayStak Media reports the story. The DPVI Engine measures it.
DPVI is a scored signal for hedge fund trading desks. It measures U.S. political escalation by its rate of change. It does not predict events. It scores the trajectory of a political-escalation cascade in the window between when escalation begins to move and when market consensus forms: the days-to-weeks when most desks are still waiting for the news cycle. Four independent signal layers are synthesized into a single composite on a fixed cycle and delivered as a machine-readable output that fits existing desk infrastructure. The Engine detects and scores the cascade. Interpretation is the desk’s job. DPVI is built for systematic and discretionary macro desks, fixed-income relative-value books, commodity pods, and the risk-overlay functions at long-only managers: the desks managing exposure to political shocks this week, not over a multi-year horizon.
The two pillars are governed separately on purpose. The Engine scores publicly observable conditions and outside signals. It does not score our reporting, and coverage decisions are never overridden for commercial reasons. That firewall is protected by founder-level authority, not by policy alone.
Existing methods react to national consensus on slow horizons. Material political events keep arriving more often and with more intensity, and the cost of waiting for consensus keeps climbing. That lag is an information asymmetry that puts people at a disadvantage exactly when they have important decisions to make. GrayStak exists to narrow it down: to report what is happening as it happens and to measure political escalation by the rate of change before consensus forms. The underlying conviction is that the right unit of risk is velocity, not probability, as set out in Political Velocity, the framework paper behind DPVI.
GrayStak Media is led by Ryan Lazarus, Co-Founder and Editor-in-Chief. Christopher Sweat is Co-Founder and CEO. The two co-authored Political Velocity, the framework behind the DPVI Engine.
